Impact

Kentucky Double Dollars has widespread impact for Kentucky farmers and their families.

Only 5.6% Kentuckians eat the recommended daily amount of fruits and vegetables, a major contributing factor in the state’s health crisis. We also rank in the top ten nationally for food insecurity.

Between the ice storm and the flooding, I had a bad year and lost a lot of food. I am so thankful to get these vouchers and the double dollars to be able to put some food back for the winter.

Kentucky Double Dollars helps solve for both variables—food insecurity and lack of nutrition—all while supporting Kentucky farmers.

Our participants report better digestive health, eating less processed foods, increased physical activity, and greater nutritional awareness.

Don’t forget our economic impact—over $4.3 million since 2017.

This impact is seen most visibly with the farmers we serve:

I saw new faces at the market, visiting specifically because they could use Double Dollars program. It never ceases to amaze me the impact KDD has on our community. I know we continue to expand access to local foods for individuals who have gotten the impression in the past, for one reason or another, that they cannot afford the food we have at the farmers market. It makes our market and community’s quality of life better as a whole.

Additionally, our program supports the hiring of farmers market managers throughout Kentucky, which all adds up to a growing and resilient local food infrastructure for Kentucky.

I am 72, on a fixed income, and not able to garden anymore. The Double Dollars program and the Fresh Stop Market have helped me to be able to have fresh vegetables this summer.
